A MURMUR

A million years ago,
When the days were tender like pillows
And nights warm like blankets;
When the sun and moon sang duets
And even ants were at content;
I was with you.

My head on your lap;
My left ear bridging the space between your thighs;
Your face above mine;
Your hair like clouds shadowing me.
I was floating in a sweet dream.

You murmured a song,
Rather a hymn,
Or just a tune
Right through my right ear;
The most enchanted one ever.

When the dogs made me wake up;
Little ants were crawling through my ears.
The day felt like hot iron;
The night pierced like blue arrows
And you were no more near.

From that day on,
Each moment I remember.
I walk for the suns and the moons
Looking for not you; Oh sweet one!
But for your murmur.

My ears pick stones
From lullaby to Ave Maria;
From shrieks of crows to the songs of whales;
From thrashing of waves to sighs of trees
And from all the sounds of History.

My eyes burn the papers;
The scriptures;
The parchments; the testaments;
The book of life and the book of death
And all the libraries of human race.

All my life,
I am trying to decipher
Your last song;
Last hymn;
Your lost murmur.
